SERVICES
"Each of us is like a tree. If we bend or wither due to poor nourishment, injury, weather or disease, healing happens when our individual nature is honored and usually it happens slowly and gently. Like good rain, sun and fertile soil, the 2500-year tradition of classical Chinese medicine--custom herbal treatment, acupuncture and insight (to mental, emotional or spiritual issues associated with our physical problems)--can help restore us to health."
STYLE OF TREATMENT
Some patients find acupuncture alone effective. The custom herb formulas I prescribe often significantly improve the speed of recovery and the range of conditions which can be treated. My approach follows the classical Chinese tradition where herbs are often the majority of the treatment with acupuncture as an adjunct.
It is often appropriate to assist my patients in understanding the mental and emotional issues associated with their physical problems. For those with a spiritual orientation, I enjoy working with all traditions and perspectives.
Health problems often have complex origins and treatments may need to be multi-faceted. Both herbal treatment and acupuncture work well alongside medications, in many cases reducing side- effects. Self-care during treatment (dietary changes, exercise, self-massage, relaxation techniques, etc.) is emphasized and is often an essential to healing.
WHY CUSTOM HERBAL TREATMENT ?
Evidence-based
Hundreds of scientific studies support use of herbal treatment.
Address more conditions with fewer office calls
Classical Chinese medicine is 80% herbal, treating a broad range of internal conditions and often requiring fewer office visits than acupuncture alone.
Support body and emotions together
Frustration, anger, grief, worry, fear, shock are known to affect particular organs, leading to imbalance. Herbs address the physical and emotional simultaneously.
2,000 years of clinical experience
Chinese herbal medicine has a sophisticated and nuanced diagnostic and formulary system. Native American, European, Ayurvedic or Tibetan herbs are often included.
The sum is greater than the parts
Blends of 5 to 25 herbs are modified to the patient’s pattern recognizing that rarely does one herb provide all actions needed.
Treat a pattern more than a disease
Based on 6 wrist pulses, tongue reading and many details of the body symptoms, herbs are blended for each individual’s pattern.
Lots of choice
Of 5,700 Chinese herbs, 600 are used in the U.S. allowing for precision and subtlety in treatment.
